write a letter to the Australian prime minister

Please feel free to use this template, which was kindly created and shared by a friend of mine:

Dear Prime Minister,

I am writing to add my voice to those calling for a special humanitarian intake of 20,000 people from Afghanistan whose lives are threatened by the Taliban.

As a tax-paying Australian citizen, I urge you, as my federal representative to take action on my behalf and save the lives of 20,000 men, women and children.

I also urge you to grant permanent visas to those Afghan refugees already living in Australia who currently hold temporary visas. It's beyond clear that the Taliban poses a threat to their lives if they were sent back. This is a clear cut issue of the highest moral importance. As fellow humans and as a country deeply involved in the conflict in Afghanistan, it is our duty and our responsibility to offer sustained protection to Afghan refugees,

Kind regards,

Violence and conflict over recent months have led to displacement of communities in many parts of Afghanistan.

This social and economic upheaval is compounded by the impacts of drought in some areas, flooding in other areas, and the effects of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this unfolding political situation, a deepening humanitarian crisis is emerging leading to hunger, homelessness and fear.
