Are you interested in creating aesthetic Canva templates but lack a graphic design background? Do you want to earn passive income or expand your brand offering by selling templates on Etsy? Look no further! In this blog post, I'll guide you through the process of creating Canva templates that sell, specifically focusing on Instagram templates. Whether you're looking to drive traffic to your website or Etsy store, I'll share tips, tricks, and ideas to help you become a successful creative digital entrepreneur.
Canva Templates for various projects
Canva provides templates for various design projects, such as presentations, flyers, invitations, infographics, business cards, brochures, resumes, e-books, calendars, and social media posts. You can create stunning templates for any project, regardless of your design expertise.
design templates with free users in mind
If you're a Canva user, you know how useful templates can be. They can help you create professional-looking designs quickly and easily, without having to start from scratch. When creating templates, it's essential to keep free users in mind. To create accessible and beautiful templates, limit the number of fonts, use simple shapes and icons, and choose a colour palette that complements each other.
pick a colour palette and stick to it
Colour is an important element of any design, but it can also be overwhelming. To make things easier for users, choose a color palette and stick to it throughout your template. This way, they won't have to spend time picking out colours or worrying about whether the colors they choose will clash with the rest of the design. Stick to colours that complement each other, and consider using a tool like Canva's colour palette generator to help you choose. I’d recommend a maximum of 5 colours.
USE no more than three fonts
Similarly, fonts can be overwhelming for free users. To keep things simple, limit yourself to no more than three fonts per template. This will make it easier for users to read and understand the design. Choose fonts that are easy to read and complement each other. If you're not sure which fonts to use, Canva has a great selection of font pairings to choose from. Some of my favourite free fonts on Canva are: Open Sans and Open Sans Light, Futura, Bodoni FLF, Cardo, Glacial Indifference and Georgia Pro.
Use Simple Shapes and Icons
Finally, when designing templates for free users, it's important to use simple shapes and icons. This will make it easier for them to edit and customize the template to their needs. Avoid complex shapes or icons that might be difficult for users to modify. Stick to basic shapes like circles, squares, and triangles, and use simple icons that convey the message of the design. You can edit the size to add elements of interests and contrast in the design using these simple shapes and layering them.
