How Often Should You Get BIAB Infills or Rebalances?

January 4, 2026

This is one of the most common questions I get from clients, right up there with “Can I push it one more week?” and “It still looks fine though”. So let’s talk about it properly. If you are wearing BIAB nails, infills and rebalances are not optional maintenance. They are the thing that keeps your nails strong, balanced, and healthy underneath.

The Short Answer

Most people need a BIAB refresh every 3 to 4 weeks.

Some clients can stretch to 5 weeks, but that comes with conditions and a bit more risk.

Why Timing Matters With BIAB

BIAB is a builder gel. It is designed to add structure and support to your nail. When it is first applied, the apex and balance point sit exactly where they need to be to support your nail as it grows.

As your nail grows out, that structure moves down the nail with it.

The longer you wait:

  • the apex shifts forward

  • the nail becomes less balanced

  • the free edge carries more pressure

  • the BIAB is no longer supporting the nail where it should

That is when breaks, lifting, and chips start to happen.

Real Client Ranges at Apricot Nails BIAB Hawthorn

My regular BIAB clients sit across a range:

  • Some come every 3 weeks

  • Many sit comfortably at 4 weeks

  • A small group can stretch to 5 weeks

The difference is not willpower. It is nail length, growth rate, and how hard you are on your hands.

When 5 Weeks Can Work

Waiting closer to 5 weeks can be fine if:

  • your nails are still relatively short

  • you are gentle with your hands

  • there is no lifting or chipping

  • the structure still feels solid

If you are careful and not knocking your nails around, BIAB can hold up well.

But this is the absolute upper limit, not the goal.

When Waiting Too Long Becomes a Problem

Once BIAB starts lifting or chipping, things escalate quickly.

Here is what happens:

  • moisture can get underneath the product

  • small lifts turn into bigger lifts

  • stress points increase

  • natural nails are more likely to snap or peel

What could have been a simple infill often turns into extra repair work or a full removal.

This is why searching BIAB nails near me after something goes wrong usually means more time and more cost than necessary.

Signs It Is Time to Book Your BIAB Refresh

Do not wait until something breaks. Book when you notice:

  • visible grow out that feels unbalanced

  • lifting near the cuticle or sidewalls

  • chipping at the free edge

  • nails feeling bendy or unstable

  • length that suddenly feels harder to manage

These are not cosmetic issues. They are structural ones.

BIAB Infills Are About Nail Health, Not Just Looks

One of the biggest benefits of BIAB is that it can be infilled and rebalanced instead of fully soaked off every time.

Regular infills:

  • maintain strength

  • protect the natural nail

  • reduce unnecessary removal

  • support long-term nail growth

This is why BIAB nails Melbourne clients who stick to regular appointments usually have the healthiest nails long term.

Final Honest Advice

If your nails are longer, book closer to 3 or 4 weeks.
If your nails are short and you are gentle, you may stretch to 5.
If you see lifting or chipping, do not wait.

BIAB works best when it is maintained properly. Timing is not about being strict. It is about keeping the structure doing its job.

Strong nails are not about pushing limits. They are about consistency.

TL;DR

Most BIAB clients need infills or rebalances every 3 to 4 weeks. Some can stretch to 5 weeks, but the longer the nail grows out, the more unbalanced and weaker the BIAB becomes. Lifting and chipping are signs it is time to book. Leaving BIAB too long can cause damage to your natural nail and turn a simple infill into a bigger fix.
